"food is my vehicle..."

Food from the Earth, nourished by the Air, fed by Water and prepared using Fire, that it may be used to enrich Our Spirit. A Fire is built using Wood from the Earth, in turn being fed by he Air, so the Water can be boiled, that it may enrich Our Spirit. To create Food, good and wholesome, using the elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water, that it may enrich the Spirit is the oldest form of magic and healing known to man. And in it's true and purest form is high art at it's finest......

A meditation on Thanksgiving

from the Studio @ NewMainStreet... Today many people will celebrate the day when "pilgrims were saved from starvation by kindly native peoples and brotherhood was achieved".
that is not what happened
What actually happened was in 1614, a group of English explorers sailed home for England along with Patuxet Natives, bound for slavery. In their leaving, however, the explorers left smallpox that decimated those that had escaped.
By the time the Pilgrims arrived in Mass. Bay, only one Patuxet, Squanto, who had survived slavery in England where had also learned their language and ways. Squanto and the Wampanog indians helped the Pilgrims survive that first year and at harvest time, the settlers put together a grand feast--as it was--to say thanks to the Natives for their care and guidance in this New World.
then, the Puritans came.
they came claiming "god's choosen in the new paradise" and began again inslaving the Native peoples, until the Pequot tribes declared war on the malicious invaders. this war would come to be known as one of the bloodiest indian wars ever fought.
in 1637, the Pequot--700 men. woman and children strong--gathered for the annual Green Corn Festival, what we call "thanksgiving".
as the Natives slept, in the predawn hours, English and Dutch mercenaries surrounded the camp and ordered the Pequot to come outside.
the men were clubbed and stabbed.
the women and children, still inside their long houses, were all burned alive.
the next day, Mass. governer declared a "day of Thanksgiving" that 700 natives had been murdered.
Enlivened by their "victory" the English and Indian allies raided village after village collecting women and children over the age of 14 for the slave ships.
all others were murdered.
the town of Stamford. Conn. and her churches declared a second day of thanksgiving for the destruction of the heathen savages.
Even the Wampanog were not immune from this. the Chiefs head was taken, placed on a spike, and left there for 24 years.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving. Enjoy your Family. Enjoy your food. But NEVER FORGET where this holiday came from. And those that died along the way.

"Tandooor-ish" Lamb (pork/chicken/etc.)"

from Studio @ NewMainStreet...Serves 2,can be easily modified for larger numbers
ingredients:
lamb, pork or chicken
coconut milk
chili paste
peanut butter
rice vinegar
ginger, garam masala
thyme
mint
hands
eyes
love
Combine milk, paste, butter and vinegar in a bowl. Whisk if possible but a spoon will do. Next add the herbs. Both to the mixture (and to yourself, if possible- wink, wink). Dip the individual protein pieces in the marinade and place in a dish to set for and hour, but 20 minutes will do. Set your oven at 450, arrange meat on a tray and cook for about 20, or to at least 120-135 degrees. Then, "scarf" that shit. the rest of the marinade, by the way can be turned into a sauce when mixed with the pan dripping, in a saute pan for like 5 minutes on medium. Try it. You dig it. And if I can get Jaedus to eat this, then you have no excuse. Enjoy.

The Reason of the "Fiendin'"

The Reason of the "Fiendin". "What the fuck does that mean, Jae?" Fiendin' or fiending for those of you not versed in "urban/street" culture means, simply, to want or desire something or someone, mild to strong, for one reason or another. Used extensively when talking about drugs, sex, and music, food and "...for some Playstation, dog." Reason is the capacity for logical, analytical and rational thought. Intelligence. The Desire for logic and rational thought is the driving force for many who are seeking to the cause and culture o the Bohemian ideals. Also, there is the Desire for acquisition, luxury, glamor and financial/cultural independence, things held dear by those whom the French call Bourgeois. Once, these ideologies were entirely foreign to, and incompatible with one another. But, here i stand. A homeowner and chef in the employ of a corporation, who is dedicated to art, beauty, freedom and truth. Plus lots of really hot boots, at salvation army prices. This is becoming the norm among other young professionals and families who what all the things that come with success, ownership AND seek to better the World Culture in a positive, sustainable way so our kids, cousins, nieces can have everything We always wished We could. Bohemian Bourgeois isn't the spoiled little bitches that the media have called BoBo's. Trust fund babies in the latest $200 moccasins. It is owning a home, maybe a business, raising a family and achieving success in a responsible, logical and respectful manner so that Art, Freedom, Music, Food, Style, Culture and all of it can be a positive force for change and peace and love for the World we leave our kids. And Beyond. Oh, also watching the BlueRay Woodstock d.v.d. on a 52" plasma is the shit----i don't care who ya are.
